Bungie Sues for $7.6 Million

Back in March, many Destiny 2 content creators were moments away from losing everything they built. Someone was impersonating Bungie and their IP company, CSC.

This individual was going after YouTube channels like Aztecross and MyNameisByf, claiming their videos as copyright infringement. Aztecross was one strike away from losing 5+ years of work that he’s sacrificed a lot to build. His business that supports his family was almost destroyed.

Even Bungie themselves were getting fraudulently copyright claimed by this person. Bungie has now filed a lawsuit against them worth $7.6 million in damages.

This individual had a tiny YouTube channel that was uploaded Destiny 2 music tracks. Many players do this to preserve the art that becomes lost as content gets removed from Destiny.

Bungie had the right to DMCA takedown this individual for uploading their copyrighted material. The anger this person felt is understandable, but the scourged earth revenge they saught is disgusting.

I can’t imagine having to pay $7.6 million, but they deserve punishment for their actions.

The “Get Good” Drama

It’s always around the middle of the season when drama rises up in Destiny. I hate giving it attention, but this really rubbed me the wrong way.

I love PvP. I’ve played as much, if not more PvP in my life than PvE.

I’m the first to go to bat for PvP players getting bullied by PvE players. But Destiny’s PvP players are making it difficult this week. “Just Get Good” is a poor argument for why Trials of Osiris’ playerbase always declines.

Full stop - it’s a privileged position. It’s significantly easier for us to get good at PvP years ago than it is now.

Naturally, the skill ceiling slowly increases as players naturally get better. The average PvP player from D1 or vanilla D2 would be bottom-tier skill right now. The playerbase just naturally improves and progresses.

This is called the Red Queen hypothesis and this is not the biggest issue in Destiny like everyone says. Stagnant and stale core playlists are far more important.
