☕Is it Time to Stop Messing With Trials?

Its getting tiring

Trials has been “back” for two months now. Almost every single week has had some large change.

Labs’ Changes. Flawless Pool Changes. Matchmaking Changes.

I have to wonder - is it worth the time?

A Fool’s Errand

It feels like Bungie is chasing something that doesn’t exist. Or maybe they’re trying to capture the wind.

It’s incredible that Bungie is able to update and make changes to a game mode so quickly. Trials has changed almost every week out of the 8 weeks since the rework.

And the player population declined every week. Except one. Freelance Trials week.

With all of the changes Bungie has made (including their matchmaking change that was so bad it had to be immediately reversed), only two moments stand out.

Opening weekend and Freelance weekend.

What is Trials Supposed to Be?

Two months later, we’re still asking the same question.

What is Trials supposed to be?

Is it supposed to be a loot farm? Is it supposed to be competitive? Is it just supposed to be fun with no other goals?

Knowing what Bungie wants the Trials of Osiris to be lets us know whether the opening weekend or Freelance is the right decision.

Until then, we’re trying to capture something we don’t know what we want with our eyes closed.

Getting Tired Talking About Trials

By now, I think most of us are fatigued talking about Trials.

It’s exhausting using energy to invest in a game mode that’s always changing. A game mode that seems to be designed for you one week and not the next.

It’s tiring trying to guess and have meaningful conversations about what’s best for Trials.

I feel like we’re beating around the bush, hoping something divine will tell us all the correct path to take for Trials.

We need to just pick a path - an identity for Trials - and stick to it. Let’s stop wasting time (especially as more and more people are realizing they might not even want an Elimination game mode).

It’s Always About the Loot

When you simply break it down, most people don’t care about the experience in the moment. They care about the loot.

We HATED the Reckoning but put up with it because of the incredible loot at the time. Master Vault of Glass just being harder hitting, tankier enemies wasn’t applauded. But players did it for Timelost loot.

Most of the loot is the same Trials’ loot that’s been around for a long time. There are very few noticeable differences between Adept and Non-Adept loot.

With how difficult and expensive it is to farm Trials loot (and really farm everywhere in Destiny), players settle for less-than-perfect rolls and move on.

We don’t feel satisfied by that. We’d love perfect rolls but when I’m just rolling a slot machine, I’ll take what I can get and do something else. Something that feels like my time is being respected more.

How do you feel about Trials of Osiris lately? Are you getting tired of talking about it too?

I hope they just pick a direction to go into and stick to it. Throw new loot at problems and I think we’ll get somewhere rather than circling around in one place for the last 2 months.

Woke up late so here’s a late coffe😅

Have a great day!
